An intelligent novel by an author with a distinctive voice. The format suggests a camera moving from face to face of women in a circle, looking deeper, looking back in time, to offer a reflections of a Woman's Life. The stories are deeply moving without becoming cliche or saccharine. Wilbert has a good eye for detail; she notices features of our lives that are highly recognizable but not because we've read them in so many other novels. Her style and knack for noticing the obscure but universal are the main reason I rate the book 4 stars instead of three.
