To be honest, I picked up this book because it mentioned it was about a goth girl and I needed to quickly find a book I could prolong over the period of a month for an assignment. This wasn't the book for that though, because the moment I turned the first page it was nearly impossible to put the book down!
The book is a favorite of mine because it faces issues every teen sees on a regular basis when going to school that many people don't want to recognize or help fix.It plainly puts out in the open the issues occurring all too frequently in schools, like bullying, beatings, harassment, prejudice, cliques, and so fourth.
How Poe handles the cruelty is an added bonus. She forces the corrupt school system to recognize the things they overlook are wrong. Her wit and attitude are relaxing and entertaining. Theo's attitude, Poe's new boyfriend, is very amusing. And the Case of "Velveta" Poe's new neighbor, is heart wrenching.
This is a great read for any teen out there, any persistent reader, teacher, school administrator, or parent. This is a book I am constantly re-reading and would recommend to anyone.
