Absolutely awesome horror/dark fantasy novel with some nice characters an interesting plot. A bit all over the place, with a lot of smaller details left vague or sort of unexplained. Not up there with his best work, but it was great nonetheless. If you're a fan of Barker, it's definitely worth a read.

Brilliant Debut
Very good book, really can't recommend Clive Barker highly enough. He is a hugely underrated talent and his books should be read by a larger audience from all walks of life. Not only are his stories the very best of the horror genre and dark fantasy sub genres there is also something hidden in his work that is hugely philosophical as he is always searching for the answers to our existence. He is searching for the meaning of life and in some respect in some passages of his works he hits the nail on the head and surpasses all his peers as he is willing to go where no other mainstream author is willing to tread.

Truely Scary!
One of the top five horror novels I have read in my life. Just a very well written book that taps into fears we all share, even if not for the same reasons as the characters in the book. Clive barker is known for his slightly over the top gore in some of his work, but he stays just as scary in this understated piece of work. Leaving more to the imagination and weaving more suspense than blood trails. A great first novel if you haven't read Barker before, or a great addition to your collection if you think Barker is as brilliant as I do. Good nail biting horror that scares you the old fasion way - from the inside out!
