Remarkable
It is a dreadful waste that Caroline Knapp should have died so young, but she left a legacy of some truly remarkable books on difficult subjects that should help many, many people. 'Drinking' is one of them - her story of how, why, and when, she drank might sound theoretically self absorbed, but her honesty and humour could help many readers who see friends or partners - or themselves - drifting into excess. I found the book wonderfully readable and lacking in self pity. All praise to Ms. Knapp, who had a hard life, but at least it was a valuable one.
