Unmissable
Written when mobiles were things we suspended from ceilings, 'Bilgewater' is still vibrant, moving, funny. As long as there are hearts to be broken or set pounding by a whisper and a touch, this book will be relevant. The protagonist, a bright but awkward girl at the edge of adulthood, is excruciatingly real and sympathetic. She captures that terrible period of believing there is only one point-of-view in any situation - one's own - and all the mistakes and missed opportunities that follow. All this written with delicious freshness and humour.
A wonderful book!
