Barry's story of the Mississippi River from the early 1800s into the physical and social consequences of the 1927 flood is a fascinating, educational experience....history at its best!

INTERESTING BOOK IN VIEW OF 2011 FLOODING
I ordered this book on the recommendation of a friend and thought it would be interesting in view of the flooding on the MS and other rivers this year. I have not finished it yet, a long read but I think the account is well written. I think there was too much historical background regarding the individuals involved and the politics and other areas..

Outstanding
Rising Tide is a great read. It is the best of several books I have read about the Mississippi flood of 1927. Outstanding story, historical characters and blend of politics, culture and engineering make this a compelling book from start to finish. You will not travel along the Mississippi or visit New Orleans again without seeing and thinking about this book.
