Though the avenues of death--AIDS, cancer, heart attack, accident--are common, each of us will die in a way different from any that has gone before. Behind each death is a story, both horrifying and mesmerizing. Here, Dr. Nuland offers a portrait of the experience of dying and makes clear the choices that can be made to allow each of us his or her own death.

While I'm sure this book represents an accurate clinical description of how our bodies deteriorate and eventually die, this book is a depressingly negative look at end-of-life issues. His viewpoint seems to be that ...you are going to die, and here are the things that happen as your body deteriorates and eventually quits working...
It is too cold, too factual, and misses a lot of the positiveness and love that show up in old age. I know; I'm in myh 80s.
A good reference book, perhaps. Written for people who want the facts. Period.
