How funny...and on target...this book is! Having grown up in the South and having lived here most of my life, Julia Reed's book rings true. I like it that she has lived away from the South and still delights in the foibles, oddities, and vagaries of the Southern way of life. Of course, she bought and cooked a tenderloin for her friends on 9/11/2001. She had learned well from her Southern mother who knew instinctively that only good food would serve as a poltice to the deeply wounded. Think how perfect is the explanation that one's car simply blew up on them. This saves a lot of time because the mechanic will not have to refute some lame disgnosis . Of course, we are curious about what dogs might be thinking. This is a treasure. I have given it and lent it over and over. And,yes, "it is way too short, Julia".

Wonderful Book!
This is a great book! It is one of those that you want to sit under the shade tree and never stop reading. It allows outsiders a peak inside the culture of the South. For those of us who grew up in this unique area, it is as refreshing as a cool breeze. I was only disappointed because there wasn't any more of it to read.
