Seller's Description:
Very Good in Very Good jacket. Frontis, maps, photos, index, xx, 295p. Cloth (corners faded). dj. 23cm. Author's "working copy." This interesting work sought to debunk some of the myths, exaggerations, and misinformation spread by missionaries, lecturers and others. Briggs has handwritten various corrections and additions here and there in the text. Laid in at the end is a carbon copy of the typed version of this additions and corrections with a handwritten note at the top of the first page--"Sent to Wilson 14 July 1960." Typed "Air Letter" from Carleton Coon tipped to Dedication Page (the book was dedicated to Coon). In the letter Coon notes the misspelling of his name while saying he doesn't mind and devotes the last paragraph of his letter to an anecdote supporting his belief that there is a real difference in intelligence among the various "races." The tipped in photo appears to be the image which appears on the front panel of the jacket.
