Worst Viet Nam Novel I Ever Read
I wanted to read this book when informed that it was an excellent novel about Viet Nam; that it was written by Marine combat veteran gave me hope. I served one (1) tour in Viet Nam, 1969--1070. Unfortunately, I read the book and must report that I found the book wanting: I had the feeling that the book was written, not to be realistic, but to be purchased by Hollywood, which probably explains why there were so many convoluted subplots. There was very little action in the 700+ pages. I found 'Sand in the Wind,' 'Fields of Fire,' and 'Body Count' by William Huggett (Putnam Award winner 1973) to be far superior. Stay away from this one!
