I could not put this book down. Very interesting and what with the recent release of records from the Vatican, a book that opens your eyes to the waste and hypocricy in religion.

White washing the crusades
I read through page 200 in the mass paperback version of this novel by Jack Whyte., Unfortunately I was also reading about the Holocaust at the same time and Mr Whyte's attempt to whitewash the Templars is overdone and maligned by his reason ---that Templars became monks to locate the old order's secre treasures. Isn't this why Jacques DeMolay, the last grandmaster of the Templars, was burned at the stake? They had too much money and power and the Pope as well as the King of France didn't need competition. The Templars have had a lot of coverage lately, including the fantasy novels of Katherine Kurtz. I assume they have also been included in the DaVinci Code and other high suspense novels lately, that bear their name. No one is ever going to convince me that anti-semitism was not the goal of the crusades. By anti-semitism I include both the Jewish and Arab peoples. Trying to read anything about the Knights Templar or any order that made their way to the Holy Land is very difficult and I think his King Arthur novels were much better.
