The synonymy of this nomenclature, which has arisen from the independent studies of many geologists, is shown in a series of tables oii following pages, which represent nineteen of the principal published sections of the North American Cretaceous. Each of these tables contains the names of the formations embraced in the section which it represents, and in each case the nomenclature used by the author of the section is given. The primary Object of those tables, however, is to show, in accordance with my present judgment, the correlation of the formations which they represent.
