Haematology is the study of the disorders of the cellular and coagulable components of the blood. This encompasses a number of important diseases that include anaemias, leukaemias, and other disorders of the bone marrow and disorders of the blood coagulation and haemostasis. The subject is taught as part of pathology and relies upon a sound knowledge of both basic science and laboratory practice. This sixth edition of the Lecture Notes on Haematology seeks to integrate the physiological, pathological and clinical aspects of haematology at a level suitable for students and other allied health professionals. In view of the overcrowded medical curriculum this book concentrates on the core of knowledge. Advanced information that students need not recall in examinations is included only where necessary and is clearly marked. Each chapter will start with a list of objectives that summarise information. This new edition will also be more clinically relevant with the inclusion of brief sections on the approach to investigate haematological problems. The sixth edition will be radically re-written and will have new artwork throughout.
