Now available in glorious BLACK & WHITE! An hysterical collection of humorous essays, short stories, sketches, cartoons and general comic musings. From the dust-jacket: "A wide-ranging, rollicking good collection of comedic sketches... As light and fluffy as a slice of chocolate mousse pie." Kirkus Using every color in the comedy palette, from cerebral to silly, this collection of hilarious short stories, essays, sketches and cartoons takes the reader on a journey through a wonderfully creative imagination. Witty, satirical, and outright funny, author William Royce doesn't shy away from the hypocrisy lurking behind nursery rhymes, the controversial crowning of The 1951 Donut Queen, or the myth of chicken-fried steaks. These thirty pieces range from a series of cartoons depicting the daily life of the microscopic creatures inhabiting our eye-brows ( The Low Brows ) to a treatment for a "classic" singing and dancing 1930's Warner Bros. cartoon ( "The Hummingbird Singer" ) to one of the lost testaments of the Bible ( "The Gospel According to St. Murray" ). Also included are the actual transcripts from a 1937 blues recording by "Blind" Willy McCann, a scorcher in which Willy details his desperate need to find his shoes, as well as an expose on The Dish & The Spoon in the hard-hitting segment, Where Are They Now?

Full Disclosure: I was given a copy of this book. Mine, however, is in FULL COLOR and I think that might make a huge difference in the appreciation of this book. The comedy, however, works equally well in "glorious black & white" as advertised. The truth is, this is one of the funniest books I have ever read. And that, in itself, should be enough. This book was written to make the author's buddy laugh. (He was dying from als.) It is a comic triumph! I cannot believe someone like a Jon Stewart did not discover this book, but actress Camryn Manheim has! Her review (on Amazon) is 100% honest. More important: 100% of the profits from this book go to the ALS Center as UCSF. I HIGHLY recommend this book.
