A fun read, but purists beware
Barbera Hambly is a pretty good author. I'll say that at first. She has a knack for getting into character's minds, their inner thoughts and complexities. She also writes R2-D2 & C-3P0 very well, capturing the adorable comedy duo-like nature the film versions of the characters.
There is one facet of her writing, however. at least in her star wars works, that drives me up the wall.
Word substitution. That is what it is. The substitution of words from our world, foreign to star wars, so that she can use figures of speech and things. It gets a little corny after a while, the kind of corny that makes you want to bury your head in your hands.
The volume isn't spectacular, but it isn't that bad either, If you can get past "Topatoes" and "Coffiene".
