Bat-21 tells the dramatic story of U.S. Air Force navigator Lieutenant Colonel Iceal Hambleton and his harrowing tale of survival and escape after being shot down in Viet Nam in 1972. Knowing that he was a former Strategic Air Command navigator, the North Vietnamese/Russians desperately wanted to capture him. For over ten days Hambleton evaded capture by enemy forces. To make things more complicated, the North Vietnamese were conducting a major ground offensive into South Viet Nam and Hambleton was right in the middle of it. After getting low on food and water, Hambleton was finally rescued by American and South Vietnamese forces by the use of a secret code. In sum, this is a gripping account of courage, survival, teamwork, and heroism. Highly recommended.
