A good, creepy read
With a title reminiscent of "It was a dark and stormy night", "Night Stalks the Mansion" is a good old-fashioned ghost story. This is the supposedly true story of a young family who moves into a beautiful old mansion on Plum Tree Lane, eager to make it homey and comfortable. Soon they discover that they aren't the only residents. Their matter-of-fact attitudes, despite their fear, enables them to eventually build a sort of truce with their unseen housemates. Curious as to who the spirits might have been in life, and what their story might be, the husband (narrator of the story) begins a harrowing investigation into the house's past.
This is one of those ghost story/haunted house books that fans of this genre imagine themselves reading beside a cozy fireplace on that fabled "dark and stormy night". Nice and creepy, atmospheric, and offering a few twists and turns, "Night Stalks the Mansion" is the enthusiast's delight, appropriate for teens, and a good, creepy read for adults.
