I first read this book in the early 1970's and it has stayed with me all these years. It truly captured the way people felt about serving in the draft and what lengths they were willing to do. It is a true mystery as you only know what the main character knows at the time he is serving in prison. Needless to say I was really shocked when information came out about government experiments a time later after I first read the book. That aspect to me was the science fiction part and it turns out had a grain of truth.
