A good story. The movie that was made from this book (late '60s or early '70s, not sure) was a bit different with some aspects of the story, IE: in the book the whole world population is encompassed within the story, in the movie the story takes place with a population that lives in a society underground. I did enjoy both the movie and the book and having seen the movie and now reading the book gives a different perspective on the story overall. I feel that the book, while very good though a bit dated, from our perspective in 2008, gave a greater depth and allowed the development of the charactors which, for me, made seeing the movie again more enjoyable.

Far out
This ia an adventure novel at its best. Dramatically different from the film, the book is ten times better than the movie. Logan, a sandman, has issues with going on the run. Trained at an early age that running is wrong he sometimes has suicidal tendecies when hiding from his fellow sandmen. Its this conflict with wanting to live and wanting to obey the laws of soceity which make Logan such an interesting character to read. The fact that people are put to death at the age of twenty one, may upset some readers. Especially since alot of people choose to die instead of running.
This is a great story of survival and secrets. This book has tons of secrets including one involving Logan's best friend. This is an excellent well written novel.
