After reading Sarah Waters' victorian-lesbian novels, every other one had very big shoes to fill. I just wanted something to read, to keep me up at night like Fingersmith, Affinity, or Tipping the Velvet use to. Just about anything victorian-lesbian-ish with a decent storyline. And holy jeez this one did the exact opposite. I've set a new record for myself, I fell asleep five times before getting to the 15th page. Though I hate letting a book go unfinished, I couldn't do it with this one after I fell asleep for the 383948204323th time. The plot picked up just a little where I stopped, which was maybe 50-60 pages in, but it wasn't good enough for me to force myself to continue on. No likeable characters and the dialogue was confusing. If anyone needs a cure for insomnia, this is it.
