I just read this book and found it to be OK, but I was somewhat put off by some of his phraseology (I think no one ever used the work "gobsmacked" in the 1940's).
The book is written in a more casual, less scholarly style than I expected from the official biographer of Field Marshal Montgomery, but that's simply a matter of preference.
But after reading it, I pulled out an older book written in the 1990's by Eric Larrabee, also titled "Commander In Chief", covering basically the same topic, and started rereading it. In my opinion, reading the two books back to back, Larrabee is by far the better read, and I would recommend that you purchase this book instead.
