magical duckling story
I would find this book and read it once a year during middle school. I could not remember the title, but I remembered the picture. When my daughter got into middle school, I wanted her to read it, but local libraries did not carry it. Some of the libraries had a hard time keeping it in inventory, for girls were always reading it.
This book fasincated me about how a broom could come to life, you could wish for things and have it appear or happen, and at the end, everything came together. She was so busy, cleaning up this old house, that she did not worry about her glasses, her physical appearance, or any of her short comings. When she did finally see herself, she complimentated the girl in the mirror, before she realized it was her.
This is like a modern day ugly duckling story, that reminds us that our appearance does change over time, and as long as we do not worry about our short comings, there are strengths which come forward. This story is also about, be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. When she wishes for a chocolate cake from a magazine, that what it tasted like, cardboard. Sometimes things that we wish for, once we get it, it is not what we thought. Or when we get what we wish for, then we do not want it. Grass is not always greener on the other side. If you believe in what you can do, and do what you are good at; God will bless you in the long run. Focus on doing right, and only good will come.
I just love this book, it's awesome!
