A delightful book
As I was crossing Boston Common, not very fast, not very slow...
I love this book. I loved it as a kid, I love it as an adult. It's an alphabet book (albeit of a fairly sophisticated variety) and a bestiary, and also a lovely before-bed poem/story. A turtle crosses Boston Common and meets a man leading a line of very exotic animals. It's not for the very young, but three-year-olds and up like it, with its combination of a soothing rhythm and exotic animals. It's great fun to read out loud, although do go through the pronunciation guide in the back before reading it to an audience, as some of the names are very unusual. The illustrations are charming, and it's fun to follow the progress of the turtle through the pictures, especially when reading it with a child.
