Field Marshal Montgomery's battleplan for Normandy, following the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944, remains one of the most controversial campaigns of the Second World War. Carlo D'Este's book gives the fullest possible account of the conception and execution of Montgomery's plan, with all its problems and complexities. It brings to light information from diaries, papers and letters, that were not available in Montgomery's lifetime and draws on interviews with senior officers who were involved in the campaign and have refrained from speaking out until now. Taking the reader from Churchill's first thoughts of an Allied invasion to the key battles that determined its outcome, "Decision in Normandy" provides a true picture of the battle to liberate France.

Seller's Description:
Very Good+ in Very Good+ jacket. Book Minor wear; otherwise a solid, clean copy with no marking or underlining; a very good reading copy; well illustrated with black and white photographs and maps.
I was very much impressed by Carlo D'Este's view of the Normandy Beach invasion and the following events in WWII. He was very even handed in describing Montgomery and Eisenhower. The same for Patton and the other generals who were involved in the operation. It changed many of my perceptions both about the war and the personalities involved. I have read several books on the same operation each displaying heavy bias for either the British leadership or the American. D'Este handles both sides well, acknowledging the brilliant and the vain-glory in both sides.
