While a laudable effort, the book is vexing in its arrangement by 16 chronological periods rather than by category of dress, especially because the silhouetted call-outs with keyed descriptions are interspersed at eight chronological divisions. The result is a lot of time-consuming page flipping. a wonderful reference book period by period. I think no other book is as good as this concerning costume of men with full detail even though it is just drawn by mr. Peacock.. I think it is fully research .

The Definitive Men's Fashion Book
John Peacock has done a suburb job of researching and locating examples of clothing, accessories, and hair styles for men from 1789 to 1995. This book could help costume designers for movies and plays, historians, fashion collectors, or others who want details of all the fabrics and styles worn and when they were worn. Chapters are roughly divided into decades with drawings of each style. Descriptions follow each drawing telling the year, where the style originated, and then the different parts of the clothing from hat to boots or shoes. There are some 1100 color illustrations on the 216 pages. I find this book invaluable. I purchased it to help identify my old family pictures from the 1800's and 1900's. It enables me to pinpoint decades for my old photos. I am very happy to have it and thankful for all the research and drawings done by John Peacock!
