Er fand, dass die Kathodenstrahlen, abweichend von allen bis dahin� bekannten Strahlenarten, � durch d�nne Metallschichten hindurchgehen k�nnen. Sein Apparat ist noch in meinem Institut aufbewahrt: in der Mitte eines hochevakuierten Rohres ist eine Scheide wand aus Uran-haltigem Glase1 angebracht, welches in hohem Grade die F�higkeit zu fluorescieren besitzt. Die der Kathode zugewandte Seite2 ist zur Halfte mit einer d�nnen Aluminiumplatte bedeckt. L�sst man Elektricit�t durch das Rohr stromen, also Kathoden strahlen auf die Glasplatte fallen, so sieht man, dass die H�lfte hinter dem Aluminium auch fluoresciert, dass also die Kathodenstrahlen durch das Metall hin durchgehen.
