A New Method for the Determination of Far Fields with Applications to the Problem of Radiation of a Line Source at the Tip of an Absorbing Wedge (Classic Reprint)
Excerpt from A New Method for the Determination of Far Fields With Applications to the Problem of Radiation of a Line Source at the Tip of an Absorbing Wedge In this paper we present a simple method for the determination of the diffracted far field for wedges with impedance boundary conditions. The excitation may be either an incident plane wave or a line source located at the tip of the wedge. The latter case is emphasized. The impedance boundary condition considered here is valid for the case of an absorbing surface. The ...

The method to be described, however, need not be restricted to absorbing surfaces but also applies to surfaces that support surface waves. Several examples are given to illustrate the method. It is also shown that the simple method developed here can be applied directly to the classical problem of diffraction by a perfectly conducting wedge or half plane.
