During the past 10 to 15 years, numerous models have been developed to help solve the increasing problems of environmental management. Until now, however, there has been no single work to provide an overview of the models that are now available. This two-volume work aims to provide such an overview. It comprises 14 chapters written by experts in the field, among them the editor himself. The first 5 chapters provide a general introduction to the subject, describe the modelling procedure itself, examine the use of the computer in modelling, and present unit processes (biological and physical/chemical) which can be used as elements presented in the following chapters. The following 9 chapters deal in turn with a particular environmental issue. For each an overview is given of the models available, and to enable the reader to use at least one of the models in practice, details are given and a practical example presented. From the book, the readers will gain a good knowledge of the wide spectrum of models available today on any of the environmental issues discussed and should also be able to select one of these models and use it himself in practice.
