One of the greatest of all Military Science Fiction novels ever written. This novel bridges the gap between the Space Opera of the "Lensman" series to "The Forever War" and its many successors. Brings the soldier of the future into everyday problems of a realistic nature. A must read for any reader of Science Fiction.

Worth A Go
There are many things different from the movie, but I was able to enjoy both of them. This book was most enjoyable and explains a lot more than the movie. The extra explanation of boot camp and war on the bugs. The book is thankfully not too technical and allows you to easily follow along and enjoy.

A Thinking Persons Novel
Starship Troopers is, thank goodness, NOTHING like the movie. The best description I can give of this masterpiece is that of an essay on topics ranging from politics, human behavior, national defense, technology, child rearing and more, all set on the backdrop of a battle between two forces, the humans and the bugs. Knowing the era this was written in, the bugs just ooze communism, and as such represent the ultimate in that political mileu. The interesting thing about Heinlein's take on these alien cockroaches is the way he, at times, seems to place admiration on the way they do some things. Johnny, a two dimensional character in the movie, grows from spoiled rich kid to man capable of leading men into battle. His growth is inspiring and yet not overly dramatic. He is still that same character one meets at the begining, only evolved through trial and experience. Highly recomended.
