Cats a young resourceful orphan living on the streets of a city where you need a data band to live as a human. The arch-typical rogue/rebel, Cat is not the perfect moral hero. Discriminated against because of his unique appearance, Cat is a product of his environment, with all the problems/complications associated with such treatment and childhood history.
Strong characterization is the reason to read and the concepts are icing on the cake. This book provides a perfect balance. The telepathy is well-developed while not being the all-powerful plot device many authors destroy good plots with. You can't help rooting for Cat even when hes doing something despicable.
