I bought this book for myself, but found that it is best for pre-teens. I decided to read it anyway, and found it very interesting. But, I didn't read it first. In order to be able to follow the thread of the Sarah Plain and Tall series, one might want to read them in order. First the Sarah book; then the one written by her step-daughter. Then the one written by Caleb. Then the sequel about Winter's End, where the grandfather comes back.
