A very good book, easy read but tells the story of hardship. A very strong woman who lived in times gone by..

Fascinating
I can't imagine such a culture shock and handled with such bravery. It was hard to put the book down.

A Book to Read and Cherish
There are few books really worthy of a complete re-reading every few years. However MRS. MIKE is a book to come back to at various times of your life. My sister read this first when she was 13 and I was eight and passed it down to me. She said it was a great romance...I read it and thought what a great adventure! We argued for years whether it was a romance or an adventure. She would site the love story between young Kathy and Sgt. Mike....I would talk about the trip by dog sled, the fire and the devastating epidemic that swept through their village. It is the story of a young girl from Boston taking on the Northwest territory and winning. A GREAT adventure in the middle of a beautiful love story. It took me re-reading this in my twenties to acknowledge the love story. But any book that could engage a young man and his sister at the same time but on different levels is quite simply a classic. Try finding this in a hardback with yellowing pages...it will send you back to a place and time more easily. It is a great read!
