Some completely new chapters have been added dealing with accounting for pension costs, sex discrimination and unapproved pension schemes. The amount of legislation affecting pension schemes in recent years has been almost overwhelming. One of the effects has been to encourage employers, or force them, into considering money purchase schemes as a replacement for final salary pension schemes. Thus, in addition to the new chapters on money purchase schemes and hybrid pension schemes, the new importance of money purchase schemes is reflected in the inclusion of much new material in the chapters which refer to and discuss this alternative form of occupational pension scheme.
