Better than the cartoon
Curious George was an important character in my childhood and he goes on inspiring children with his compulsion for getting into trouble. The context of the stories is dated and might be offensive to some, eg the idea of a monkey "rescued" by a big white animal collector, but there is something about George that entrances all children. Maybe it is his apealling cheekiness and smallness, or maybe children feel it is safer and more enjoyable to read stories about a naughty monkey than to read stories about naughty children! I bought this book in Spanish for my daughter (who is a community worker and film maker) to take to children who use a community centre in a remote part of Mexico where children's books are expensive and rare. I expect it to appeal to pre-schoolers but learning readers enjoy it too,
