Disney's screen version created an interest in me as a youth, and decades later I've finally read the book. The antics of the characters are entertaining for children and enlightening for adults. The actions and manners of the animal folks and the short prefaces between tales reveal the way real life people thought and acted in every-day life just after the Civil War. All in all the book is an interesting aspect of history, as well as a fun collection to read to kids.

A forgotten treasure
I really loved reading this for an English class. I never read these stories growing up, but they seemed pretty entertaining to me. I learned some of the stories are being phased out, due to controversial content. The story concerning Brer Rabbit and the Tar Baby is one such example. A person should really read the book once before these tales disappear. A few of the tales might not be that interesting for kids. Howerver most of the tales with these silly animals are great for kids.
