Very entertaining story ! Learned a lot about pirate treasure and Plum Island where they have a bio-medical lab full of terrible viruses that could potentially kill us !
I love the character of John Corey, he is equal parts bad-ass detective and smart-ass chauvinist pig and he's funny as hell, I've read the "Lion" and "Panther" stories and felt I needed to go back to his beginning, and am very glad I did. I hope Nelson continues to write about him - Detective John Corey and Detective Virgil Flowers (John Sandford) are my favorite guys in print !

pure DeMille. Great wit, humor and a great
thriller read.

The hunt for the treasure killer...
Another gifted John Corey story by Nelson Demille which takes us to his uncle's home, the summer vacatipn boyhood residence of the Corey family. Suddenly, a biochemist couple are found murdered and John, who is cooperating from several bullet wounds, is ask to help with the investigation by the local police department. Intrigue and hidden agendas ever abound with John's cryptic humor and devious chicanery as he runs into his old nemises from the CIA and/or FBI....
Mr. DeMille is at his best with the John Corey stories.

Rollercoaster ride
You can't help but grow fond of the lead character--a narcissistic detective recovering from serious gunshot wounds--who gets caught up in solving the murder of friends. It is a rollercoaster ride to the end as he moves tirelessly to get to the solution. It is akin to an Indiana Jones movie in that the action keeps ahead of you and keeps pulling you along. I found it hard to put down, even though it is a big book. It is the third book of DeMille's I have read, and I would read more.

Excellent and Fun - Must Read
I keep having to buy this book because I give it away so often. Best book I've read in a long time. There are several in the series, but this is the best of the lot.
Other excellent books by the author: The Gold Coast, The General's Daughter, and The Charm School.
