Very Good. Size: 7x5x0; Hardcover and dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Shelf wear. Tears to jacket. Clean, unmarked pages. The Endurance Expedition was a British mission to cross the Antarctic on foot in 1914-17. Launched in August 1914, the expedition became one of the most famous survival stories of all time after the expedition's ship, Endurance, became stranded and then sank during the voyage to the Antarctic. The Endurance's crew became stranded on the remote Elephant Island and were only rescued over four months later, in August 1916, after expedition leader Sir Ernest Shackleton (1874-1922) left to seek help. The miraculous survival of the Endurance expedition crew earned Shackleton worldwide fame though his goal to cross the Antarctic on foot was never achieved. The location of the sunken ship Endurance was lost for 107 years until being rediscovered on March 5, 2022.

I loved this book because it tells the story from a more personal angle. The writing seems so fresh: you feel like you are right there with the expedition members, sharing in the sufferings and the joys. IIn my opinion it is by far the best book written on the subject.

Powerful & gripping; survival against the odds
This is one of the most amazing true stories ever told, and rates highly within the group of books written about the Endurance expedition. Worsley's style differs from Shakleton's, and this book focuses more on the environment and physical journey and less on the individual characters involved.
That men could survive such an ordeal is mind blowing to us pampered, coddled people of today who find it hard to deal with minor setbacks in life. The story is inspiring and I can't recommend it highly enough.
