I thoroughly enjoyed this autobiography of General Lee. As an African American, I held considedrable reservations regarding this leader of the Army of Northern Virigina. However, Dr. Emory Thomas writes a fair, critical yet appreciative account of General Lee. To my surprise, I learned the General was essentially a military engineer. It was only during the Civil War that he lead troops in combat though he was a staff officer during the Mexican War.
