Oldie but goodie
Written for cruising sailboat wannabees and newbies, Street covers the state of the art in that aspect of the sport as it was 10-15 years before the book was written in the '70s. That is, he's properly wary and conservative of risky or unproven boats and equipment. He writes well and reveals his biases in favor of traditional, not to say outdated solutions to boating issues. Because he's determinedly outdated, new equipment of the '70s is given short shrift that now, 30 years on, is normal conservative gear. His book's value for cruisers today is in the commonsense and simple approach to each problem that he takes which gives us a basis for our own efforts.
