A perky sixteen year old determined to make a life for herself. Guts, never give up, humor, strong, fair, helpful, and love of earth and animals describe her somewhat. The book gives a great description of early Montana as well as the prejudices that abounded during WWII. Homesteading/proving a claim was not for the weak-hearted nor could it be done alone. Well written!!
