"But allow me to warn youâ"even if you do not choose to attend the tonâs events, they will find you.â
With the unknown Lady Whistledown's gossip the tying ribbon, these three Julia Quinn regencies are a lot of fun! I might just have to take them out again and re-read them, and that says a lot for the author IMHO. Highly Recommended 5/5

A fun start to the series
After watching the show, I knew I wanted to pick this up. It was cute, and I like the Bridgerton family dynamics. I didnt like how Simon or Daphne handled their feelings about having children and the lies and sketchy behavior around it. I wont say more to avoid spoiling but I think they were both very unfair to each other and to the relationship. The rest of the story I enjoyed and it was a quick read and Im going to move on to the next one.

Disappointing
I must first say that I am a great fan of a well written Regency romance, and having started in my early days by reading the entire works of Georgette Heyer I have high standards as regards the quality of the storytelling and the style and language used in setting the scene and evoking the feeling of the Regency era.
I have to say that although the basic storyline was quite good, Julia Quinn failed to create a convincing cast of characters. Her use of modern English or even worse modern American idiom was jarring and also very annoying, how lazy can she be as a writer not to use language and terminology appropriate to that time.
Although writing a romance nowadays is far more sexually explicit , and most readers would expect and enjoy these scenes( myself included) I found that overall I was annoyed and disappointed with this book. And as she has written quite a few in this series I was also disappointed that I will not now be reading any more of them!
I will keep looking to find a writer who can create a more engaging and believable set of characters.

Good Book
I expected this book to be good when I bought it and once again I wasn't disapointed. Not only is Julia Quinn a good writer but it seems like every book in the "Avon Romance" line is great. Its not a book that you'll read once and put down, you'll read it again and again. Buy it!
