Schumacher is sympathetic to her main character Jane, pregnant as a fall-out of a two night stand. Her sympathies, however, don't stop her from her close investigation into Jane's disjointed family and personal angst. As she waits for her baby's arrival in the company of her frustrating family members in her childhood home, the reader roots for her to get to the bottom of her heart and heal the hurts before the next generation arrives. A gem of a story about life made up of imperfect but beautiful things -- the families that don't mean to hurt us but do and faulty timing that messes up our best laid plans.
