I am a great admirer of the battleship U.S.S. Washington, (BB-66) the only American battleship to sink a modernised Japanese battleship in ship-to-ship fighting, not counting the onesided slaughter of Okinawa. This is an enjoyable and focussed history of her World War II service, with extra consideration given to her ultimate moment, sinking the Japanese Kirishima which had already disabled ther compatriot U.S.S. South Dakota. Oddly enough, bad blood built up over this incident, resulting in many fights between crewmen of the respective ships. I already knew that, but until I read this book, I never understood why. Highly recommended, despite the bland title.
