I still remember when my teacher read this book to my class 25 years ago. The book left quite an impression. We would go to lunch, play, then come in and have a reading time. It was unfortunate timing because some of the descriptions were rather stomach-turning, and I vividly recall fighting to maintain control over my lunch! Fried worms with catsup and mustard...YUCK! Aside from the "yuck factor", the book was very entertaining with hilarious depictions of school life and a kid out-smarting the schoolyard bully. An enjoyable read for the family. (I think it's coming out in movie format soon, but there appear to be significant plot differences in the film that could reduce the humor of the book.)
