Like New. Size: 11x8x1; Hardcover and dust jacket. Good binding and cover. Light wear. Clean, unmarked pages. Graced by five 45-inch-wide gatefolds that display the lunar landscape, from above the surface and at eye level, in unprecedented detail and clarity, Full Moon conveys on each page the excitement, disorientation, and awe that the astronauts themselves felt as they were shot into space and then as they explored an alien landscape and looked back at their home planet from hundreds of thousands of miles away. Seller's Description:
Light, Michael. Very good in good dust jacket. DJ has some wear, soiling, and bottom edge curling. 236 p. Contains: Illustrations. Essay by Chaikin. Photos and some text by Light. This collection of 129 wonderful photos--72 in full color--allows readers to see one of the most extraordinary journeys of all time through the eyes of the men who made it. Five 8-page gatefolds. Michael Light is a photographer and bookmaker focused on the environment and how contemporary American culture relates to it. A Guggenheim Fellow, his landscape projects have been exhibited globally and his work is in the collections of numerous museums. 21 editions of his five books have been published worldwide since 1993. FULL MOON was published in eight international editions in 1999, and concurrently exhibited at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Hayward Gallery, London. From there it travelled the world, and much of the exhibition found a permanent home in 2000 at the Rose Center For Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History in New York, where it may be seen to this day. Hundreds of thousands of copies have been printed. FULL MOON offers a single composite journey to the Moon and back comprised of imagery from the 9 actual Apollo missions, along with Earth orbital imagery from the Gemini missions. One of the primary goals of the project was to think about the some 33, 000 Apollo images in terms of the traditions and meanings of landscape representation, rather than science, cold-war politics, and exploration alone. An edition of c-prints was released in 1999, and over the years the book, museum exhibition, and print edition have come to be seen as a standard benchmark, art-world and otherwise, for inflight NASA Apollo photographic material.
