This book is one of the best books published for those with bipolar disorder. The content accurately describes the turmoil for the affected individual and those who love him/her. The book is primarily written for the spouse but is an invaluable read for brother, sister, mother, father, friend, co-worker.

Unique perspective and insights
As a psychotherapist I have read many books on bipolar to help patients understand its symptoms and their effects on functioning. This is the best book I've read because one of the writers is bipolar and has researched the subject extensively for her own well being and that of her spouse who is bipolar as well. It's empathic to individuals who suffer with the challenges of depression and mania and those who suffer with them (their family, friends and loved ones). Holistic practical advice is given regarding how to provide a supportive environment to someone with bipolar and just as important, how to recognize the behavior of the illness as part and separate from the bipolar individual in order to protect the self and the relationship. I am inspired by the authors' efforts to respect the impact of bipolar and to honor as well the positive aspects of its' intensity when understood and channeled.
