After reading his first book Sarum, which was very good, I am having trouble getting through this one about Russia. It is very dark and troubling. Their development as a people and as country are so incredibly different from us in the West, and often times extremely brutal. I am just to the chapter after " Fathers and Sons" which is a tremendously insightful commentary on just how the seeds came to fruition for the revolution. It is troubling to see our nation about to follow a similar path, rejecting the lessons of the past.
I think the author takes quite a few liberties here and maybe embellishes some and skirts much???
I will have to find some other insights to clarity on Russian history as this may not be too accurate???
