Although I enjoyed the historical information in this book, and learned quite a lot about cholera and British medical history, I have to say this book was a disappointment. Although the author captures the ambience and day to day living conditions of the period, I had a hard time finishing this book because I wasn't emotionally invested in the characters. The plot and characters seemed like poor imitations of works by talented authors. I couldn't recommend this one. Not a bad book, per se, just nothing special.
