Pope Joan is a spellbinding tale of a woman who gave up everything, even her very name, for the sake of knowledge.

What a wonderful book. This should be rated AAAAAA. The research was right on. Being raised Catholic, not onlt have I heard of "Pope Joan", but I also know the politics and thinking orf the times. Ms. Cross had all of it perfect. A perfectly wonderful and engaging book.

Fourth Time I Have Read It
Pope Joan is an excellent book and should be read by anyone interested in the history of the Popes and of women who are role models for all of us. Read this book on Sabbatical 2 years ago and have led several Christian Education classes as well with this book. I am always buying copies of this book to pass on to others.

Excellent reading!
I so enjoy a story that has some historical reference to it. I love books about women who have traveled outside the normal role of women and this was certainly a wonderful journey! It gave me so much in the way of the culture of the time and the way women were viewed. It also gave me hope that a woman in that age could be so brave as to go after what she wanted and not waiver from that, not even for the love of a man.

reads like a movie
This is one of my favorite books to loan out. If you haven't read much historical fiction this is a good book to start with. It really keeps the reader engaged. This was our third book club choice (read it about 5 years ago) and everyone really enjoyed it. Each person I have loaned it to has enjoyed it as well. It still makes the rounds at work and I still get asked about it after 5 years. Very entertaining.
