Great "Unknown" Novel
James Whitehead's JOINER has been described as one of the great Southern novels. Let's go one better: it's one of the very best American novels. Period. Ever. Granted, the plotline & the intricacies of the protagonist's thought patterns are a verbal thicket that must be carefully tread. But Whitehead's (and Joiner's) insights are well worth the effort. One is reminded of the intellectual challenges presented by a Faulkner or a Pynchon
